Stalbridge Town Council are responding to local concerns over speeding in the town by setting up ‘Stalbridge Speedwatch’ in partnership with Dorset police’s Community Speed Watch initiative (CSW), which is a partnership initiative aimed at raising awareness and encouraging speed reduction.
Reducing speed will directly contribute to help saving lives and will improve the quality of life for people within the County. It is an opportunity for you to get involved in making the roads safer where you live. Speed is a major factor in about a third of all traffic collisions. Each year, in excess of 700 people die, and more than 4,500 are injured nationally, as a result of speeding which is one of the main contributory factors to road collisions. How does it work? The council contacts the CSW liaison with suggested locations for using speed monitoring equipment in Stalbridge. Dorset Police arranges risk assessment, volunteers' vetting and site approval. Stalbridge Town Council purchases equipment and Dorset Police trains volunteers. The CSW team record how many vehicles exceeded the speed limit. A warning letter is then sent by Dorset Police to the registered keeper. What does volunteering entail? * we need a minimum of 6 volunteers * full training is given * the kit is provided * the volunteers would be expected to do 2/3 hours per month * the volunteers only volunteer in daylight hours How can I get involved? Please visit the Stalbridge Town Council SPEEDWATCH page on our website using the link below and fill in the contact form. https://www.stalbridgetowncouncil.gov.uk/speedwatch.html The closing date for expressing your interest in helping with the project is Tuesday 14th May 2024 STALBRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL PTA SPRING BINGO! Independent retailer Dike & Son have now donated over £100,000 to local community causes through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity. An award-winning, independent supermarket in north Dorset, proudly family-run since 1851, have contributed to a range of community initiatives since partnering with Nisa in 1999 with many local sports clubs, community centres and hospices benefitting from the retailer’s generosity. Recently, Dike & Son have made donations to Abbey 104 Community Radio, Stalbridge Primary School and Stalbridge History Society alongside contributions to sports teams Templecombe Rovers FC and North Dorset U13 Boys Football. MADL is part of Nisa’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves. Since its inception in 2008, MADL has donated over £17 million to local charities and community organisations. MADL raises funds in Nisa partner stores from sales of all Co-op own-label products, with a percentage going into a virtual fund for retailers to donate. Additional funds can also be raised via in-store collecting tins and clothing banks. Harold Dike first started delivering groceries in Stalbridge in 1851. Five generations on, Andy Dike is on the shop floor daily in the same village, in a much bigger supermarket that opened in 2007. Independent and still-family run, the store also incorporates an active Café at the heart of the community, named after Andy's father William. Kate Carroll, head of charity at Nisa, said: “Dike & Son have made a significant impact on many charitable causes and community groups over a very long period of time. The difference they have made to the lives of many people right across Dorset cannot be understated and MADL looks forward to continuing our work with Dike & Son for many years to come.” Andy Dike, managing director at Dike & Son Ltd, added: “We are so proud to have reached £100,000 in donations through our long-standing relationship with Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity. We truly have community at the heart of what we do and working with MADL gives us the opportunity to build up a fund to distribute back into the community. Our work with MADL has supported thousands of people in Dorset and it is so important we continue that work moving forward.” There are elections taking place for all parish and town councils within the Dorset Council area on Thursday 2 May 2024. This includes Stalbridge, where there are 11 councillor roles to vote on, according to the election page on Dorset Council's website.

Throughout the year we provide opportunities, such as after school and toddler groups, for us to stay in touch with our creativity as young people and families. During school holidays we also run craft camps for young people to immerse themselves in their creativity. We aim to introduce the students to as many different forms of Arts & Crafts as possible, whilst fostering in them an appreciation for each individuals' ability to create, respect for one another and the creative environment and to inspire them to keep creating beyond their time at The Gugg. At Guggleton we are ever conscious of the links between creative pursuit and wellbeing, and we focus as much upon the right environment and circumstances to help us create, as the outcome. We are also keen to work with groups on team building and collaboration, helping one another to reach a common goal and celebrating the achievements together.
